Common Electrical Repairs
Although we’ll need to properly diagnose your automobile before making repairs, we’re glad to provide information about some common electrical problems. One of these is a dead battery. The battery stores energy for starting the vehicle and operating power accessories. Sometimes, all you need is a charge. This usually occurs because someone accidentally levels something turned on, draining the battery. However, the battery doesn’t last forever and will eventually need replacing. Typically, a battery lasts about three years. Another issue is a bad alternator. This component charges the battery as the car operates. If it fails, the battery’s power is soon depleted, and the alternator must be replaced. Spark plugs provide the impetus for combustion, igniting the fuel-air mixture in the chamber to power the engine. If the tip becomes worn over time, the spark plugs will need to be replaced to ensure reliable starts and efficient performance. Frayed wiring can hinder or stop the flow of electricity, too. We’ll check the condition of key wires during a tune-up, and we can also help if you notice trouble between scheduled visits. In addition to normal wear from heat and other stressors, several factors are known to be catastrophic for wiring. If your car becomes partially submerged in flood waters, you can anticipate damage to wires and other electrical components. Rodent infestations are also devasting. Mice seemingly enjoy chewing the outer coating of your car’s wires. They are particularly drawn to models made with soy-based insulation. While many shops won’t tackle these complex, dirty problems, we’ll help you.
